The inaugural two piano recital competition took place at Manchester`s Royal Northern College of Music on the 29th April 2002 with adjudication by Professor Peter Hill of Sheffield University. Competitors were required to play a work from the classical era, the two central movements from Rachmaninoff`s Second Suite for Two Pianos and a short modern work of their choice. The prize winners were Marie Blair and Jin Ju. The prize money for this initial recital had been raised by sale of the CD of Gerald Silverstone`s two piano transcriptions. The second competition took place on 30th April 2003 with adjudication by Philip Moore and Simon Crawford-Phillips. Competitors were required to give a balanced 30 minute recital of two piano works including repertoire from at least two centuries. The winners were Kathryn Eves and Ruth Hollick. The third competition will take place on Tuesday 11th May 2004 with adjudication by Jennifer Micallef and Glen Inanga. |
