Barbara Silverstone and Marilyn Blank

Barbara Silverstone and Marilyn Blank have been duet / duo partners for 24 years and during that time they have given numerous recitals in the North of England. Barbara is based in Sale and teaches privately. She studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music where she was a student of Gordon Green. Marilyn, a former pupil of Barbara's, is now herself a teacher in Altrincham where she lives. They both have other musical involvements, including stagework, chamber music and accompanying, but their main interests are the piano duet and two piano repertoires. They have given many recitals on two pianos at the Royal Northern College of Music; the first of which was a celebration of their 15th anniversary and the most recent of which was their sixth public recital in aid of the Hallé Orchestra. A further recital is being planned at the
RNCM for Sunday 7th March 2004. (Click on RNCM for booking details about this and other events). Marilyn holds an MA in the Psychology of Music at Sheffield University and is currently researching a PhD. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Hallé.
Gerald Silverstone
Barbara`s husband Gerald, a research chemist by profession, graduated B.Sc and Ph.D. from Glasgow University and spent much of his working life in the chemical industry before joining Manchester University until his retirement. While still at school, in Glasgow, he obtained a diploma in piano playing and later studied both viola and guitar. As a recreation he has made, solely for this Duo, transcriptions for one or two pianos, of a number of orchestral works otherwise not available in the four-hand piano repertoire whilst also reducing some two piano works to piano duet form.
A CD of eleven of the two piano arrangements has been made.
